ANYONE into the likes of Hutson, Callier, Lou Courtney
and the like owes it to themselves to invest in this
gorgeous slice of mid 70's soul heaven - unless you
happen to own the scarce Finnish only original on EMI;
either on the LP or, if you're a show off, on the 7".
Kicking off with an airy, strummed guitar the track
slides into view with the addition of percussion and a
slinky bass before Mr Williams' sweet tones take it
over and up to the next level. Imagine the warm glow
of "Lucky Fellow" combining with the after-effects of
drenching yourself in the entire Lou Courtney Lp and
you're getting there. Got Soul? Get this. *****

A great little soul single - issued in Finland in the mid 70s, but recorded by American singer Charles Williams! The single's a mellow soul classic - sweet and bubbling, like the best work at the time by Leroy Hutson, and handled here with a very similar feel. Charles' vocals have a bit of a crack to them, bending slightly around the warm mix of conga, drums, strings, and guitar that run through the track - and the instrumental version plays upon the backings nicely, by adding in a bit of piano soloing over the top!
